We’re only part-way through the year 2024, but already we’re seeing some pretty distinct footwear trends popping up when it comes to designer shoes.

Yes, the enthusiasm for ballet-core flats and gorp-core sneakers seems to have carried over from last year with just as much vigour, but we’re seeing those trends evolve (with the exception of the Margiela Tabi, which has had unmatched staying power). Ballet flats are coming studded, buckled and sheer – or we’re channelling our school girl days with a pair of Mary-Janes. Dad sneakers are flirting with coquette sensibilities – embellished in flower appliqués or diamantes.

Loafers this year are being updated to platform iterations thanks to Gucci, while boots are still knee-skimming and oversized, still riding out the biker boot trend that picked up pace in 2022.

Mules are coming up through the ranks in 2024, thanks to Houses like LOEWE and LEMAIRE, and the ever-popular Samba sneaker collaborations between adidas and British designer Grace Wales Bonner are still topping the wish list of many.
